must see (web) tv?

http://www.vimeo.com/7762718

While surfing ThatBlackGirlSite I saw an ad for “Kindred” and decided to check it out. Turns out, it wasn’t the R&B group, but rather a new web TV series about three 20-something cousins in NYC. I’m a sucker for good shows (and NYC) featuring women that look like me, so I decided to give it a shot.

I know there are a few web-based shows that have been very successful, but typically, I like my TV the old fashioned way, on TV (go figure), but this was pretty decent. I was/am a huge fan of “Living Single” and “Girlfriends,” and since they’ve both wrapped years ago, I’ve longed to see shows that feature complex Black women.

While the acting in the first episode is a little over-the-top, the issues the women are facing are intriguing enough for me to stick with it to see what develops. Check it out & let me know what you think.

  • I watch satellite tv through my pc and use a tv tuner to transfer the video to my regular tv set. http://www.computeruser.com/blogs/entry/satelli...
  • I don't do much online television watching because my pc is archaic and constantly lags. But, the premise of this show sounds very interesting. There is nothing remotely close to this on television now and like you I loved shows like Living Single. Thanks for introducing it to me. I do hear that there are more programming options on sites like Hulu where you can watch the shows you want. Hopefully soon someone starts to target a bigger demographic that includes Af Am women who would love to see more women like themselves on TV.
  • I can relate to liking my TV on TV but in the cyberage I suppose we have to adapt. I too enjoyed shows like Girlfriends, Living Single and also The Game. On an aside, I wish BET would invest in these type of projects as opposed to promoting the buffoonery they seem to embrace.

I surprised myself by engaging in social networking and blogging so I am open to viewing WebTV. Perhaps this is cheating, but I just got FIOS which now boasts a Twitter app. So maybe, I could hit a link and see the web show on my TV! Just a thought but either way I'll check it out.
