There’s no secret that I love words.
I love the power that can be wielded and conveyed in a simple sentence. I love how words, like grandiose, sound (and feel) coming from my lips. And I love scribbling words into poems that so easily and succinctly express what I want to say better than any essay.
From time to time I’ve shared some of my poems with y’all. I’ve always enjoyed your comments on my words. Every writer would be lying if they said they didn’t enjoy a little appreciation for their work, and I am no exception. When I was getting my MFA, I loved the workshop, even as my poems were being picked apart, because I craved an audience for my work. Lately, I’ve been kicking around the idea of gathering a few of my poems and putting out a chapbook, and I’ve also starting sending out poems to literary journals again. After a writing lull, my love of writing and sharing poems has been reignited.
With that in mind, I present to you a mini-podcast that I began putting together during this past April’s National Poetry Month. During the month of April I set out to share some of my words and yours, as well as the poems of well-known poets. I wanted to cap off the month with a reading of a few of my poems, but like many things I set out to do, I put it to the side. Tonight, I finished it up and here it is…
I hope you enjoy these poems. I’d love to make this an ongoing series, but I’m not going to commit to anything just yet (maybe the lack of committing will actually help me continue it). At any rate, this goes out to you.
Enjoy.
